James McGeough your host is also the proprietor of the award-winning McGeogh family butchers.  One of the joys of staying at Fough East B&B is undoubtedly the delicious full-Irish breakfast served each morning using the very best of McGeough's award-winning sausages and puddings, as well as bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes and freshly-made soda bread.

FOUGH EAST is situated in a quiet location just 2 minutes walk from the centre of bustling Oughterard.  Drive into the centre of Oughterard village and turn right between the Lake Hotel and the Boat Inn.  Fough East B&B is located just 500 m along this road on the right hand side.

Oughterard is frequently referred to as the Gateway to Connemara.  It is located just 27 km (17 miles) from Galway city, on the N59 Galway to Clifden road.  This is a wonderful drive through beautiful rural landscapes, despite this one would be forgiven for thinking that Oughterard was simply a pretty, rural suburb of Galway.  However, as soon as you exit Oughterard to the West, North or South you immediately enter the wilderness and beauty of Connemara.

The beautiful Lough Corrib dominates the village to the North.  Each route North from the village provides a different perspective on the lake.  Indeed just minutes walk from Fough East B&B will bring you to a tributary feeding into the lake and used by the local anglers to moor their boats.

Taking the Station Road to the South of Oughterard will bring you along the Seanafheistin Road, right over a range of hills and through forestry and bogland to the seaside towns of Costelloe and Carraroe.

As soon as you leave Oughterard on the N59 westwards towards Clifden the landscape changes dramatically to the rugged, wild beauty of Connemara.  Within two minutes of the bustling village centre, one can feel solitude,  peace and a close proximity to nature.
